PREPARATIONS CONTINUE!
Yesterday was the day for my visit to the Travel Medicine Clinic at the University of Washington Medical Center. It was a good choice – the staff was friendly, informed, and patient with my many questions.
I must admit, though, that as I sat there listening to Lisa talk about rabies, tick-borne encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis, food and water precautions, dengue fever, malaria, and hepatitis, an internal voice was saying, “Why are you going on this trip? This does not sound like fun!” Nonetheless, I proceeded to get my advice – and vaccinations – knowing the benefits will far outweigh the risks.
In case you are wondering what I was advised to get, the list includes vaccines for polio, hepatitis A and B, and typhoid. I am current on my tetanus. For prescriptions, I am getting Cipro (antibiotic for food/water related issues), Diamox (for altitude sickness), and Malarone (for malaria).

No problem. Those shots will be the least of your problems. They are rioting now in Tibet’s capital and the Chinese are trying to keep the lid on so it doesn’t mess their Olympics up. Sounds like and interesting trip coming up .
